Rediscover Your Passion: How To Reconnect With Your Hobbies

Do you miss her?

The girl who used to have paint covering her fingernails, write story ideas on napkins, or dance around the room when music is turned on. She’s still in there, and she misses you, too.

Being a mother does not have to be the only thing. It can be your best thing, but it doesn't have to consume everything. It’s important, for you and for your children, to do things you enjoy.

Why Hobbies Matter:

Having a passion project, hobby, or creative outlet isn’t a luxury—it’s nourishment. It reminds us that we are more than caregivers. We are artists, thinkers, creators, and explorers.

Engaging with things that are just for you brings:

  • Joy that comes from the source, you aren’t reliant on anyone else to bring it to you.

  • Confidence that grows from continuously working towards a goal

  • Mental Space that allows for rest, reflection, and growth

So, How Do You Begin?

1. Begin with what used to light you up.
Was it music? Gardening? Hiking? Photography? Let yourself wander through old memories and notice what makes your heart flutter.

2. Start small, start soft.
You don’t need a two-hour block or a fully stocked art studio. A 10-minute sketch. A few pages in a novel. A quiet walk with your camera. Keep it gentle and pressure-free.

3. Invite your kids into it—or not.
Some passions can be shared (like cooking or dancing). Others are sacred and solo. You get to decide what’s for them and what’s just for you.

4. Schedule it like it's sacred.
Yes, you’re busy. But just as you’d never skip your child’s doctor appointment, your time deserves to be on the calendar too. Protect it.

This isn't about going back to how things were before you were a mother, but it is about finding ways to entangle the girl you miss and the woman you are. It's about finding a balance.
