What do you mean by expressive arts? Do I need to be an artist?

First of all, no. You absolutely do not need to be an artist to participate in expressive arts workshops. Our workshops offer a holistic, integrative approach to healing and self-discovery that uses creative processes—like visual art, music, drama, writing, and other forms of expression—as tools for exploration and transformation. Rather than focusing on artistic skill or end results, this form of therapy values the act of creating as a way to access emotions, process experiences, and connect more deeply with oneself and others.

It operates on the belief that engaging in the arts can bypass the limitations of words, tapping into inner truths and unconscious material in a safe and supportive environment. By weaving together multiple art forms, expressive arts therapy helps individuals express what may be difficult to say, encouraging insight, resilience, and personal growth. There is NO artistic experience expected of you, and you will NOT be required to show others anything you create during the workshop. The experience is entirely personal and not intended for display.

What makes this retreat different than others I have seen or attended?

This isn’t just a getaway—it’s a return to yourself.

Nestled in the tranquil beauty of the North Cascades, this retreat is designed by mothers, for mothers—with the understanding that true rest means more than a break from routine. It’s a space to be deeply nourished—physically, emotionally, and creatively.

Hosted by a licensed psychotherapist specializing in maternal mental health and an experienced art therapist, this retreat blends the grounding power of expressive arts therapy with the luxurious ease of being completely cared for.

What sets this experience apart is its gentle, permission-based approach: you choose your own pace, your own path. Whether you're called to dive into creative expression, receive insight through tarot, unwind with a massage or sound bath, or simply soak in the hot tub with a book and silence—this retreat gives you full freedom without pressure.

There are no decisions to make once you arrive—no meals to plan, no decisions to make. Just a private room to retreat to, a hot tub under the stars, and a community of women who understand. Every part of the experience is designed to replenish your nervous system and reconnect you with yourself.

This is a chance to rest—not just your body, but your spirit. To create, connect, and reclaim space for you.
